You can't upload songs to Spotify yourself. Spotify only accepts music from distributors like Octiive. Upload your track once, pick a release date, and we deliver it to Spotify and 260+ other stores. Plans start at $5 a month with unlimited uploads, and you keep 100% of your royalties.
Release on Spotify
Get your music on Spotify in 5 steps
- Create your free Octiive account. Choose a plan: unlimited uploads from $5/month or $29/year, or pay $9 for a single release.
- Upload your track and artwork. WAV (16-bit, 44.1 kHz) is best. Artwork should be a 3000 x 3000 pixel JPEG. Free ISRC and UPC codes are added for you.
- Add your details and pick a release date. Set it at least 30 days out. That gives Spotify time to process it and gives you time to pitch.
- Claim your Spotify for Artists profile. Once your release is delivered you can claim your profile, add your photo and bio, and see your stats.
- Pitch your song to Spotify's editors. In Spotify for Artists, pitch one unreleased song at least 7 days before release day for a shot at editorial playlists.

How you get paid from Spotify
Spotify pays royalties to your distributor, and we pass them to you. On any plan you keep 100% of your net royalties. Request a payout from your dashboard whenever you have a balance; payments go out by the 15th of the following month via Tipalti, with no Octiive fees.
One rule to know: Spotify only pays royalties on tracks that reach at least 1,000 streams in the past 12 months. That's Spotify's policy for every artist and distributor, so plan your release around building those first listens.
Your music stays on Spotify
Some distributors take your songs down if you stop paying. We don't. If a payment fails, your music stays live and your account switches to pay as you go: Octiive keeps 8% and your streams, playlists and stats stay where they are.
Do more than just release
Octiive artists get YouTube Content ID, neighboring rights collection, PR and playlist pitching from day one. When your music takes off, you can unlock royalty advances and full label support through the GoDigital Music family. Always your choice.
Spotify FAQ
Can I upload music to Spotify for free?
No. Spotify doesn't accept direct uploads from artists, so you need a distributor. With Octiive that starts at $5 a month for unlimited releases, or $9 for a single.
How long does it take to get on Spotify?
Set your release date at least 30 days out for the smoothest launch and time to pitch editors. Need it sooner? Our Expedite service gets your release to stores within 48 hours.
Will my song show up on my existing Spotify artist profile?
Yes. Enter your artist name exactly as it appears on Spotify and choose your existing profile during upload, and the release will land on your profile. Wrong profile? Email support and we'll get it moved.
How do I get on Spotify playlists?
Pitch your unreleased song to Spotify's editors through Spotify for Artists at least 7 days before release. Octiive also pitches selected releases to curated playlists.
Can I move my songs from another distributor without losing my streams?
Yes. Re-upload with the same audio, artwork, ISRC and UPC codes and original release date. Once the Octiive version is live, ask your old distributor to take theirs down.
Do I keep the rights to my music?
Distributing with Octiive doesn't change who owns your music. You give us permission to deliver it and collect your royalties, and that's it.
