Serio is a Los Angeles–based Chicano rap artist whose career represents independence, longevity, and creative control at the highest level. Known for his commanding presence and uncompromising authenticity, Serio has built a worldwide following while staying rooted in his culture and vision. His name, meaning “serious” in Spanish, was given to him by his grandmother at a young age—a title that would come to define his discipline, focus, and artistic identity.
Serio officially entered the music industry in 2005, founding his independent label, Serio Controla Records, and immediately beginning to perform live concerts across the United States. In 2006, he released his debut album, Nightmares Turned Into Reality, marking his arrival as a formidable independent artist. The album’s standout single, “I Got To Have You,” gained radio rotation on select stations nationwide, expanding his reach and establishing strong early momentum. During this period, Serio actively promoted his music through radio interviews, live appearances, and extensive touring.
From 2006 through 2008, Serio toured consistently throughout the United States, building a loyal fanbase through high-energy performances and direct audience engagement. In 2009, he released his second album, N.T.I.R. Part 2: The Revenge of Serio, which featured the notable collaboration “In L.A.” with West Coast icon Kid Frost. The project further elevated his profile and reinforced his standing within Chicano rap and independent hip-hop.
Expanding beyond music, Serio entered film and visual media with the release of his first full-length DVD, The Rise of Serio, in 2010. He followed this with Gansterism Part 3 in 2011, a double-disc CD/DVD project that showcased both his musical evolution and on-screen presence. In 2013, Serio released his fourth studio album, Soy Chicano Rap, a culturally resonant project that reaffirmed his identity and voice as an artist representing Los Angeles Chicano rap on his own terms.
At a pivotal moment in his career, Serio faced one of the greatest challenges of his life when he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Following surgery and careful medical guidance, he successfully overcame the illness and is now cancer free—an experience that strengthened his resolve and deepened his perspective both personally and artistically.
In 2023, Serio expanded his impact beyond music with the release of his first book, The Cure to Recidivism. Far from a conventional autobiography, the work is a deeply personal self-help and educational project in which Serio openly addresses past mistakes, the lessons learned, and his belief in what truly helps individuals break cycles of recidivism. Designed to function as both a book and a curriculum, it reflects his commitment to transformation, accountability, and empowerment.
Continuing his visual legacy, Serio released King Serio in 2024, his third full-length DVD available to the public. In 2025, he returned with his fifth studio album, Cipher King Serio, reaffirming his position as a seasoned, independent force with complete creative control.
To date, Serio’s catalog includes five solo albums, multiple DVD and film projects, and a published book. Through Serio Controla Records, he has achieved worldwide reach with millions of units sold globally—remaining fully independent throughout his career. Defined by endurance, evolution, and authenticity, Serio stands as a respected and enduring figure in independent hip-hop.
