Music royalties are payments for the use of your music. Streaming royalties come through your distributor. YouTube Content ID pays for fan videos that use your song. Neighboring rights pay when your recording plays on radio, TV or in public. Octiive collects streaming and Content ID income, and you keep 100% of net royalties on every plan.

Recording and songwriting are two different things

Every song has two sides. The recording is the sound people hear. The composition is the melody and lyrics. A distributor handles the recording side. If you wrote the song, you may also be owed songwriting royalties, which are collected separately through a publisher or a performing rights society.

How to collect more of what you are owed

  1. Release through a distributor so streaming and social video royalties reach you. See how to release music.
  2. Turn on YouTube Content ID so fan videos earn for you.
  3. Register for neighboring rights if your music gets radio or TV play.
  4. Join a publisher or society if you write your own songs.
  5. Consider an advance if you want cash now. Octiive and Sound Royalties offer funding against future royalties.
