We're thrilled to announce the release of SUBSET's latest EP, Feeding the Anatoki — a deep and immersive journey through dub, dub techno, and nature-inspired sonic textures. Born in New Zealand and currently based in Brisbane, Australia, SUBSET brings a truly unique live performance style to the genre: blending custom touchscreen controllers, MIDI synths, and even guitar-triggered sounds to reimagine each track on the fly.

"Each performance is one of a kind. I treat every show as a chance to re-interpret the tracks in real time — layering new textures, playing with structure, and feeding off the energy in the room."

A Journey Through Aotearoa

Written during and inspired by a six-week journey across New Zealand’s South Island, every track on Feeding the Anatoki is named after a specific location SUBSET visited — from mountain valleys to oceanfront hideaways. This record captures not just a sound, but a sense of place.

  • "Feeding the Anatoki" kicks off the EP with meditative melodies and dub groove, soon shifting into a double-time steppers rhythm, setting the tone for the journey ahead.
  • "Kaiteriteri Falls" floats in on deep reverbs and field recordings of native birds, evoking the lush, untouched beauty of the region.
  • "Return to the Riwaka" builds tension through layered guitar lines and sub bass before taking an unexpected turn into genre-bending territory.
  • "Punakaiki Rocks", named after the iconic ‘pancake rocks’ of the West Coast, closes the record with a soulful, liquid drum and bass vibe — meditative, melodic, and moving.

If you’re a fan of deep grooves, layered atmospheres, and organic-meets-electronic soundscapes, Feeding the Anatoki deserves a front-row spot in your playlist.
