Since its debut in 2022, TikTok’s SoundOn has quietly become a major player for independent artists - and now it’s taking a big step further by launching in Germany, one of the world’s largest recorded music markets.
To date, over 1.158 million artists have registered with SoundOn globally. Many of these artists aren’t just registered — “hundreds of thousands” have actually released music and are earning revenue through the platform.
With Germany onboard, local artists will now be able to distribute their tracks not only to TikTok itself, but also to major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, SoundCloud, Deezer, and more. The expansion is part of the broader rollout that already covered markets like the UK, US, Brazil, Indonesia, and Australia.
WizTheMc, a South African-German artist, made waves through SoundOn: his track “Show Me Love feat. bees & honey” hit No. 3 on both the German and UK singles charts. The remix by Tyla racked up over 500 million streams on Spotify. Ely Oaks, an Austrian DJ, also saw success. His track Borderline went viral and reached No. 17 on the German charts.
For independent and emerging artists in Germany, SoundOn now offers a more direct route to global exposure, decent royalties, and promotional tools powered by TikTok’s reach. The move aligns with the platform’s broader mission: helping artists build sustainable careers while giving them greater control over their music and how it’s released.
In the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), TikTok already counts 25.7 million users in Germany alone. More broadly in Europe, TikTok recently passed 200 million users.
If you’re an artist based in Germany or looking to break into that market, SoundOn’s arrival there is definitely a development worth exploring. The opportunity to distribute globally, get paid fairly, and leverage TikTok’s promotional power is more valid than ever.
